How to value life?

Insensitive, heartless, vegan planet-lover that I am, I would like to go on record as saying I do not value one human life more than the lives of 75 dogs, nor even than the life of one dog, tree, mosquito, snail, chickadee, mouse, chimpanzee, or elephant. I am sorry you are sick. Amazingly, there are many reported cases of people with diabetes adopting a vegan diet and then living without medication. Isn't diabetes considered a "disease of affluence"? I'm not sure, but I don't think that diabetes is common in non-industrialized cultures where sugar intake is much lower.
