6 MR. MORRIS: Mr. Beavers, just a brief few questions about your
7 personal history: You have been on the Board of Directors
8 since 1984?
9 A. That is correct.
11 Q. With McDonald's since 1963?
12 A. That is correct.
14 Q. You are a director of Chicago's Zoo or Zoological
16 A. That is correct.
18 Q. That is a commercial enterprise, is it?
19 A. It is an enterprise that is supported by contributions;
20 it is state funded.
22 Q. But it is a commercial enterprise?
23 A. Yes, you could say that.
25 Q. You are a non-executive director of a gas and shipping
26 company, you said?
27 A. I beg your pardon?
29 Q. You said you are a non-executive director of a gas -- I
30 forget the name of it now?
31 A. Nicor.
33 Q. Yes, a gas company which had also a shipping -----
35 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Subsidiary.

38 A. That is correct.
40 Q. But that is a paying post, is it?
41 A. Yes, it is.
43 Q. Is that the same with the Chicago Zoological Association?
44 A. No, that is not a paying directorship.
46 Q. Do you have any other paid directorships or positions,
47 apart from McDonald's?
48 A. No, I do not. I would like to come back to the Chicago
49 Zoological Association: The Chicago Zoo is supported by
50 contributions, donations. Admissions are charged to
51 visitors to the zoo so that is how the zoo is supported.
53 Q. You have stock holdings, you said, in your -----
54 A. In Nicor and in McDonald's Corporation.
56 Q. They provide you with a substantial income in themselves?
57 A. I am employed by McDonald's Corporation.
59 Q. No, but I mean with the stock holdings -- is that the same
60 as shares?
