Day 022 - 12 Sep 94 - Page 32

MR. MORRIS: Yes. Page 51 of the bundle. It is not a very
       good copy actually.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: So in the pink index at the front next to
tab V, "Good Food, Nutrition and McDonald's", I can put
U.K. October 85 as written on the -----

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. I do not know why it is not there. It is
       not dated in the index.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. The reason we have 4 in brackets after
5 is that is where it was, was it?

MR. RAMPTON: That was its old number.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. Thank you. Do you want the witness
       actually to look at this?

MR. MORRIS: No. That is OK. That is finished with. I want
to ask you about another document about advice to the
public. "A diet high in fat, sugar, animal products and
salt and low in fibre, vitamins and minerals is linked
with cancer of the breast and bowel and heart disease". Is
       that a reasonable statement?
       A. It has been linked, yes.

  Q. So would that be a reasonable statement?
       A. Well, it depends to whom it is being directed.

  Q. The public.
       A. If it is being directed to the public, then I would
say it is a very reasonable thing to say, but if it is
directed towards the scientific community, then I think
one would be a bit more careful in the language which one
       is using.

  Q. That is actually a quote from the London Greenpeace fact
sheet which is the subject of the libel action. We have
finished that part of it. It would -- to be honest, I am
quite exhausted -- it would be good to break maybe here
and come back at quarter to two.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You would like to break off now and start a
       bit earlier after our break?

  MR. MORRIS: Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We will adjourn now and resume at ten to
       two.

                          (Short Adjournment)

                                               2.00 p.m.

MR. MORRIS: Just one procedural matter, that we now have a
copy of a substantial set of World Health Organisation
reports that were referred to, but we have not made copies
-- we will try to do that by tomorrow.
