       Paper.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think it might be a good idea to ask
Ms. Dibb to tell us more about what the National Food
Alliance is, what its objectives are, how it works, that
       sort of thing?
       A. Yes, perhaps I could refer the court to the aims and
objectives of the National Food Alliance?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is that a document we have?

MS. STEEL: Yes. I think it was disclosed; it is probably
       behind the statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, it is the one with the child on
       the -----

MS. STEEL: No, it is the Responsible Food Advertising.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I merely say that because on the second sheet
of that it has a heading "National Food Alliance" and what
may be quite a succinct description of what it does.

MS. STEEL: Is that a description you are happy to explain?
       A. Yes, it is a slightly longer one, but I am happy to
read that out. "The National Food Alliance is a UK
Association of National voluntary professional health
consumer and other public interest organisations which was
founded in 1985. Its policy is to advance the education of
the public in and to carry out research into all aspects of
food and agriculture policy. The purpose is to improve the
health of the general public and increase knowledge and
appreciation for the way in which food is produced and
distributed and the effects this can have on human health
and on the environment on which humans depend.

The National Food Alliance is a voice for national
non-government, non-profit organisations working in the
public interest. As such, the NFA and member organisations
are represented on the national nutrition task force set up
by government in 1992 to find ways and means to achieve the
goals set out in the White Paper, the Health of the
       Nation.

The activities of the National Food Alliance include
collecting, analysing and distributing information relevant
to the purposes of the NFA and its members; discussing food
and agriculture policy issues with the objective of sharing
information; exchanging views and identifying agreements
amongst NFA members; promoting the interests and concerns
of the NFA and its members and representing them at all
       levels of policy-making national and international;
       publishing information, recommendations and policy
statements in the public interest endorsed by specified NFA
       members.

Now, the full list of organisations who are members of the
National Food Alliance is listed in the other document, the
Responsible Food Advertising document. It lists the
members and observers of the National Food Alliance".
