     1        A.  No, it was the first time we had published a position.

     3   Q.   Can you remember what was the reason why you published your
     4        existing position?
     5        A.  Well, I think as these subjects become topical, people
     6        have the right to know a company's position on any major
     7        topic.  Before that date the subject had not been
     8        particularly topical.  We certainly had not had
     9        many enquiries at our headquarters on this issue.  We did
    10        not feel a need to publish prior to that.  Secondly, we had
    11        never published McDonald's fact book until two years ago.
    12        It was the first time this was done.

    14   Q.   Can you tell me, if you can, whether the next document
    15        "Animal Welfare and Husbandry - summary of supplier
    16        positions" is likely to have about the same date or not?
    17        A.  No, this would be much earlier.

    20        A.  Much earlier.

    32        page 1, Summary of Supplier Positions being page 2.

    35        documents, Mr. Oakley?
    36        A.  The first document was prepared by the Communications
    37        Department in conjunction with Quality Assurance and our
    38        suppliers.  The other documents were prepared by the
    39        individual suppliers in conjunction with McDonald's.

    Q.   I see.  How much contact -- let me perhaps approach it a
    42        different way -- the suppliers of meat to McDonald's, that
    43        is, both pork and beef are McKey Foods?
    44        A.  Yes, that is correct.

    46   Q.   The supplier of chicken products are Sun Valley?
    47        A.  Right, correct.

    49   Q.   There are one or two suppliers of bacon and fish which, as
    50        far as I am concerned, we are not much concerned with in 
    51        this case.  How long have you had contact with McKey Foods 
    52        and Sun Valley -- you, personally? 
    53        A.  I personally opened both of these suppliers, McKey in
    54        1978 and Sun Valley in 1984, so I have had contact with
    55        them since day one.
