Day 098 - 07 Mar 95 - Page 06

       A. There is more than one carcass on the line at one time.

  Q. I had the impression there were two carcasses
       showing -----
       A. No, the line -- it is an automated rail that moves
cattle along. Rather than moving from one station to the
next, it will move two because we have two at each station
so it can move twice. Do you follow?

  Q. No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: As the line moves on to each station, yours
       has two ---
       A. Of each.

  Q. -- cattle hanging on it rather than presenting themselves
to the next stage in the process, or being presented to the
next stage in the process; whereas from the Jarret layout
it looks as if they have one being presented at each time
to each stage of the process; is that right?
       A. That is right. If you look at the plan, for instance,
look at where it has the "dehiding", if you imagine another
one of those next to it.

  MR. MORRIS: Two dehidings then?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So there are two of everything with two carcasses?
       A. Yes, (inaudible) twice.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does that mean that they stop ---
       A. Yes.

  Q. -- two at dehiding and two at splitting and so on?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And the line cannot move on until all those processes or
       finished?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. So, if the man with the splitting saw is ready for the next
carcass, having finished his last one, but back down the
line the dehiding is not finished, the line will not move
       on until dehiding is done?
       A. The line will be stopped until it is done.

  Q. Then the whole line moves on with two carcasses for each
       point on it?
       A. Exactly.

MR. MORRIS: So is there, in effect, twice as many people
working on the line as there would be, say, at Jarrets, if
there are two of every stage, two stations of each -----
       A. I suppose it is a reasonable assumption, but I do not
know how many people Jarrets have working, but there are
certain points where there are not, you know, for the
faster jobs, if you like, there are not two stations.

  Q. One person does both carcasses?
       A. Sure.
