Day 142 - 26 Jun 95 - Page 06

  Q. But you do not know what the guaranteed hours are or were?
       A. No, I do not, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Morris seems to be assuming that you
have agreed that three times as many as were required for
that store were actually hired. Are you agreeing that? So
far you have just agreed it was the right number for that
store and for anticipated future stores.
       A. Yes, my Lord, I do not know how many stores they
expected to be putting on stream at what time. I do not
know if it was three times or a few more or many more.
I really do not know from first hand knowledge.

MR. MORRIS: What happened to copies of this leaflet that were
       produced and circulated?
       A. I do not know. I have never seen it. It would not do
me any good, frankly, to see. It is in Chinese or
       Mandarin, I guess.

  Q. You never saw a translation of it?
       A. No, I did not.

  Q. You have absolutely no knowledge about what happened to
       that leaflet?
       A. I had general information concerning the matter and
I really do not recall any specifics. It was not -- it was
not something that was a big matter, from what
       I understood.

  Q. Are you aware that there was a grievance to do with
       clothing?
       A. I am not aware that there was a clothing issue with
regard to whatever this gentleman was raising. I do not
know if it arrived. It was in that context. I know there
was a question about clothing at one time in Beijing.

  Q. So there was a concern by staff that they were not getting
the clothing that they wanted from the Company?
       A. No, that is not what I am saying. What I am saying is
I am aware that there was a question raised by someone (and
I am not sure who) concerning some clothing, but I do not
believe it was the staff, at least that is not my
       information.

  Q. The leaflet that was circulated, you have said in your
affidavit, second affidavit: "A copy of a leaflet did
exist but the copy was not retained". Who told you that?
       A. One of our McDonald's people told me that.

  Q. If we move on to paragraph 12, the next paragraph,
"Philippines, Makati, in or around 1981/83. The
authorities refused McDonald's a licence to set up a store
following a boycott campaign. McDonald's responded with
       specially designed 'information' placemats (including
admitting they were changing traditional employment
practices with regard to the employment of young people) at
its franchisee 'McGeorge' stores." If we read paragraph
       94 ---
       A. Excuse me?
