Day 194 - 01 Dec 95 - Page 03

  Q. Was your job linked to some government scheme? Just
       explain.
       A. The job at McDonald's?

  Q. Yes.
       A. Yes. There was a scheme called Restart, or possibly
Job Start; they were the two schemes at the time. The
scheme was for people who were doing 35 hours or more a
week, in other words, a full-time job, but were being paid
a low wage, and they would give you an additional £20 a
       week for the first year.

  Q. Who would give you?
       A. The Government, through whatever agency it was at the
time, the Department of -- probably -- Employment. It was
arranged through the Job Centre, so it would have been.

  Q. So you got £20 on top of your McDonald's wage?
       A. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: It might be useful to get a copy of your
       statement.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you do that, Mr. Riley, please -- pale
blue volume II -- if you could give it complete to
Mr. Sutcliffe. It is divider 8, Mr. Sutcliffe.

Do you know if you are going to refer Mr. Sutcliffe to any
       other bundles?

MR. MORRIS: No, I do not think so, no.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well.

MR. MORRIS: I will just read out sections and ask you questions
       about them.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, before that happens, I have something to
say, I am afraid. It grieves me to have to say it, it
really does. I do not mind the statement being read at
all, of course. On 15th June, Mr. David Sexton gave
evidence to your Lordship to deal with what Mr. Sutcliffe
had said in his statement. When Mr. Sexton had finished --
it is, for the Defendants' benefit, day 135.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: I said to your Lordship that -- Mr. Sutcliffe,
your Lordship will remember, was in court on ------

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I remember I said that Mr. Morris should take
the opportunity before Mr. Sutcliffe left to take further
       instructions.

MR. RAMPTON: And, what is more, having done so, if there was
any additional detail which Mr. Sutcliffe was able to
give -- as your Lordship will notice, his statement in that
respect is a bit bare so far as names and so on are
concerned -- Mr. Morris and Ms. Steel were to send those
details to us. That was on 15th June, and Mr. Sutcliffe
