DAY 216
KATHERINE HARRISON, Examined:

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I have, but it has a very blank patch in the
middle, and I would like to read it again.

MS. STEEL: "This was in spite of the fact I would have
preferred to keep paid breaks."

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: Is that OK now? Right.

"At all stores I have worked, you have been pressurised to
finish your break early if the store was busy. No one was
allowed to finish a break in their busy periods, and some
crew members did not get a break at all on Saturday
shifts. Also, at some stores, your weekly shifts could be
changed without notifying you. If you ever questioned
this, the management would say that you must have read the
schedule wrongly.

"At the Romford store in 1983, a Second Assistant,
Graham Woods, fell with two pickle buckets of hot
shortening and was very badly burned. This was because
there was no proper urn to discard the shortening into,
making it much safer.

"On two occasions at Colchester my holiday pay was delayed
by a month each time. This happened to other crew members;
also receiving holiday pay when not requesting it.

"At Birmingham High Street, I left because of unfair
bonuses which were paid out to Managers' favourite crew
members."

Is that your signature at the bottom?
A. Yes.

Q. We have not got a date on this. I do not know, do you
remember?
A. 22nd -- on here, it says 22nd July 1993.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Can you read the last line and a half again?

MS. STEEL: The last line and a half?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: "....bonuses which were paid out to Managers'
favourite crew members".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: (To the witness) Are you happy for this statement
to be taken as your evidence?
A. Yes.

Q. If we move on to your second statement; I will not read
first part, because I have done that already.

"I generally worked 30 to 35 hours a week, sometimes 40 or
