Day 259 - 10 Jun 96 - Page 05

       checking it?
       A. No. I did check it. I missed it.

  Q. You say that on this picket in 1989 you observed me for
eight minutes. What about Mr. Gravett?
       A. I saw him -----

  Q. But how long did you observe him for?
       A. Well, he was out of the cow -- or half out of the
cow -- outfit. Four, five minutes; not very long. I just
wanted to see him there, to see what he was doing.

  Q. Right. So you observed him for four or five minutes, but
you did not see him hand out any leaflets?
       A. No. My memory is that he certainly had some leaflets
in his hand, but when I saw him he was talking to someone.

  Q. So you observed him for four or five minutes, but you did
not see him hand out any leaflets?
       A. No. I just presumed, as he was holding leaflets, that
that is what he was doing.

  Q. I mean, you thought Mr. Gravett was the main organiser, did
       you not?
       A. No, no. You must get this right. Special Branch had
said that you and Mr. Gravett were two of the organisers,
and they identified you to me. But I did not know.
I mean, I had that to prove, and that is what I took the
       agencies for.

  Q. That absolutely was not your view of the demo, that myself
and Mr. Gravett were the organisers?
       A. No. I said there was sufficient evidence that you were
involved, but there was no evidence to indicate that you
were exercising any kind of control on that occasion. As
far as I am concerned, you spent most of the time that
I saw you holding a banner.

  Q. Or that we organised it?
       A. I had no evidence that you had organised it.

  Q. I want to ask you a question about something that is in the
       publication bundle, yellow 2.
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause a moment . (Pause) Yes.

MS. STEEL: If you turn to tab -- actually, I do not know what
tab it is. It is the statement of Jack Russell.
       A. Jack Russell? I have got it numbered at 6.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: It is number 5 in mine.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is 6?
       A. Yes.

MS. STEEL: If you look at paragraph 6 of Mr. Russell's
statement, he says: "Towards the end of the meeting" --
