I couldn't agree more. It's good to hear the same conclusion reached independently by so many people. On the same subject, there was a good documentary a few years back (by Frontline, I believe) on Pablo Escobar. His assassination (committed with aid from the US government) grew not out of his drug ties, but with his increasingly freindly ties to Cuba and Nicaragua.

I find the easiest way to counteract media propaganda is to follow the old adage, "Follow the money." All too often, moral (read: drugs) or political (read: Communism) motives are espoused for our meddling in the affairs of other countries, when the real name of the game is extracting cheap labor and natural resources. I can say Vietnam!
