: Karen...Karen...Karen...

: You site slave owners and traders and ask if all white people should be held accountable. Duh. How bout all hate groups or other organizations who still claim supremacy. This would be a good target.

Target for what? My own frustration & hate to breed more frustration & hate?
I confess I have thought of what i'd do to Hitler if I could have met him, and my way of holding Nazi's accountable when I see them marching around town(which is almost never)is simply to actually spit on them.
But the best thing would be to tie them up in group therapy sessions.
Seriously though, I'm really asking, what do you propose? What I mean is waht would be your way of holding the catholic church accountable?

: I never once stated that anyone who isn't directly responsible should be held accountable. However if a person were sending donations to the KKK- Yes please hold them directly accountable for hate related activity.

If their activity is violent or illegal in another way you could hold them accountable, but other wise in the US there is the right to free speech. Klan members can even go on Jerry Springer & spew their nonsense. I sure don't like it but there is nothing I can do to stop it.(legally anyways) So how would you suggest to define who is or isn't accountable? There would have to be levels of accountability. I mean my 70 year old aunt from poland goes to the catholic church & gives $ all the time, she doesn't know about religious wars etc. She never even finished high school and let me tell ya, if any one ever tried to "hold her accountable" I'd hold something of there's until it ripped off!

: In the same vein if you support monetarily an organization that has a reputation for equally abhorable behavior...get educated and get out or reap the consequences.

What are the consequences for innocent old people going to church to pray and donate $ as they were taught and brought up to all their lives? My family, along with what i'd guess to be a majority of catholics in the US are simple people who don't know about religious wars, and would never hurt a hair on anyones head. Many people were raised partly in churches of many kinds, and never involved in "evil" If you go to the neighborhood church to pray for your brother who just died of cancer, and someone associates catholocism with something terrible, then how are you accountable? Yikes, even I have given $ to the catholic church when I have gone with friends. What do you suggest be my punishment?

: Unfortunately the original post didn't call for such extreme measures but your razor sharp perception has opened my eyes to my own flawed thinking. When I started I was simply stating that the organization (ie those employed by and who answer directly to, and propogate for) should be held soley responsible. OOPS. MY Bad.

What about people who really are Godly people and are in the catholic church, or work for it but don't agree with violence, etc.? What do you want to do to the old Pope? Rough him up?Book him? Yikes!Tell him he was a naughty boy?

: As I have seen at this site , much like mcdonalds vs mcspotlight,we should be pointing the finger at everyone involved no matter how fringe they might be. Excellent point Karen and duly taken.

If you want to start pointing fingers it could get ugly, there would be no end, and eventually fingers would be pointing at you for something or other.

: Fact: certain religious organizations have twisted the original faith to manipulate large masses of people to their own evil ends. These organizations claim piety while slaughtering and exploiting those who refuse to go along with the pack.

Tons of poeple do this, in religious form, the US to the natives, even high school kids have clicks, granted they don't usually slaughter each other. Con men take people for $ door to door, etc.

: Fact: countries are forced to pay for reparations (ie. the us to japan after wwII) why is it unfair to request the same from a religious organization? What would "GOD" say?

Yes, but who would be the judge & jury? Who would be accountable? how could it be determined? Do you think the US will be held accountable for bombing innocent people in Kosovo? No way. People get of scott free with brutality all the time. From what I gather, God would forgive everyone and love them all equally, so maybe he'd say something like "Can't we all just get along?"

: C'mon Karen. Dont turn this into a pissin' contest.

If it was i'd probably lose as a female I can't pee too far.

: Either the organization is guilty or not. Black and white. You deal with your conscience your way and I'll do the same.

Nothing is black & white unless you are color blind! There are many individuals involved in a situation such as you speak of. And they all have their own circumstances and realities. Judge not lest ye be judged in the same way!
