Happy Lenin's Birthday, (er hum), Earth Day

Posted by: Robert on April 22, 1999 at 18:50:06:

The Imperial Communists insisted that the first Earth Day be conducted on April 22, 1970 much to the opposition of the rank-and-file ecological members of that day. The popular consensus was to have it on the first day of spring to welcome in the "rebirth" of the earth. Well, who won this debate and why?

We all now know who won, as April 22 is celebrated every year, being Earth Day. But did you know that April 22, 1970 was the 100th year birthday for one Vladimir I. Lenin. That brings new meaning to the much overused phrase "Make everyday Earth Day", doesn't it?

It also adds credence to the slogan "The green movement has red roots", although I'd say these days their shirts have become rather brown given the constant clamouring for population reductions.

Here is an interesting tidbit along those lines:

Condoms for Refugees

The priorities of refugees fleeing Kosovo would, you'd guess, run along the lines of food, clean water, dry clothes, basic medical attention and a place to sleep at a safe distance from flying bullets. So what does the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) send to their aid?

Condoms.

"UNFPA recognized that all refugees and persons in emergency situations have the same vital human rights, including the right to reproductive health, as people in any community," declared UNFPA executive director Nafis Sadik.

Yep, that's right. International organizations like the United Nations might not be able to prevent you from being chased out of your home at gunpoint, but it will move heaven and earth to ensure your right to "reproductive services" when it happens.

Also on the UNFPA's list of goodies are "sexually transmitted disease kits," "complications from abortion kits," "intrauterine devices (IUDs)" and "vacuum extraction equipment," as well as the aforementioned condoms.

The U.N. brings new meaning to the term ethnic cleansing, doesn't it?

But, you don't have to participate. Take heart, for children are a gift of the Lord and Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. God Bless.
