If it weren't for the supermarkets and butchers who sell meat to us, I'd be a vegetarian, I wouldn't kill an animal myself, but I'll let someone else do it for me. I'm such a hypocrite!

dear mcchick,

to me, it is not the act of eating meat that is cruel, it is the whole meat industry. breeding cattle who are doomed from day one. keeping them in such crowded conditions, slaughtering them in an assembly line type fashion. breeding them to keep up with supply and demand, like they were tinker toys and not living creatures.

these animals never know freedom, they never even get a fair chance.
you don't have to look deep into your heart to see how this is inhumane.

i'm like you in the way that i don't think it's immoral to eat meat. i do however think that it's wrong to submit a living creature to these kinds of conditions.

on the other hand, i don't think hunting for food is cruel. these animals have a fair chance at life. they also have a contributing place in the ecosystem. i think if you're going to be carnivore enough to eat meat, then you should be carnivore enough to kill it and butcher it your self. eeeeeew! pretty gross, huh? well then you have no business being a carnivore. it's this mass production of animals that i think, well, that i KNOW, is wrong.

is this realistic? no. will the meat industry ever perish? no. but i can live in my own little dream world, can't i?

kath.
