ANIMAL TESTS (OPPOSED TO)

Posted by: Kristen Blaghier on May 07, 1999 at 10:33:13:

I am doing a report on animal testing, and have found many SCIENTIFIC facts opposing what has been said. #1, More than half of all prescription drugs approved by the FDA (food & drug administration) between 1976 and 1985 were approved because they didnt cause serious side effects in animals. However in humans the side effects were so serious that the drugs had to be relabled or tken of the market entirely. #2, data from animal tests cannot always be applied to humans because of the huge differences in metabolism & physiology amoung rats, rabbits, dogs, pigs, and humans. Lab conditions may even change the results more because of the often stressful conditions, inhuman handling, and inhuman caging. That can alter heart and pulse rates, and impair immune functions in animals. #3, modern non-animal test methods often are more revelant and quicker than animal tests.
I think that whoever believes that animal testing is good must not be informed on the matter at all. I personally encourage everyone to use products not tested on animals.
