: (However, what not many people have realized is that there is a more serious problem before the New Year; many of the older mainframes treat a date of 9999 as a condition for rollover;

I had been under the impression that 9999 was shorthand for end-task, rather than restart or rollover, right? But I suspect that 9 Sept. will be read as 090999, rather than 9999, so there shouldn't be so much of an issue, since dates are generally six digits, rather than four. Still, it would be symbolically really cool if Jesus came back and ended all tasks that day. It would demonstrate, for those who still require it, that computer programmers are more accurate than televangelists! ;-)
(sorry for being such a smart-ass, I just can't help it!)
