My thoughts on vegatarianism, and other issues...

I can see that this room has picked up in activity over the past few months. Quite a bit of activity...

Well let's get to it... I'll say it again, meat eating is NOT a sin. Nor is it an automatic death sentence. As for the "inhumane slaughter of animals", what about the much-revered American Indian? It's my understanding that buffalo (or bison) was their meat of choice. Were their slaughter methods really more humane than those of the "evil slaughterhouses"? I've never been to one of those places, but I agree that they need to develope a quick and painless method to get the killing part over with.

Let us not forget that animals kill certain other species of animals for their food source. Pet owners, your dog loves meat and eats meat. If it's OK for him to do so, then it should be OK for us. NJ's post below gives weight to this. His point is that "no living being is superior". If that's the case, then it should not be any more immoral for us to kill a cow or hog for beef or pork than it is for a dog to kill and eat a bird, a cat to kill and eat a mouse, or a cougar to kill and eat a deer. While we're on this, I remember reading elsewhere in McSpot about a lady trying to turn her dog into a vegatarian. My belief is THAT'S animal cruelty. Dogs are designed to eat meat. And singer Michael Stipe needs to quit giving singer Steve Earle the silent treatment(Earle fed Stipe's veggie-converted dog Alpo. The dog liked it.).

Now I'm gonna further pick on vegatarians for a minute. I just don't see how this group gets by without beef, pork and poultry. I've been to salad bars before, mainly to save money, and while veggies are good, they are only part of a meal. They are not enough to fill you up, at least that's the case with yours truly. Yesterday, I went to a local BBQ joint called Colter's, which has an excellent buffet. After eating my generous portions of brisket, smoked sausage, and smoked turkey along with a loaded baked potato, cole slaw, and ranch style beans, I didn't have room for dessert, which was an excellent apple cobbler. It was actually overkill, as the brisket, beans, and slaw would have more than sufficed [It takes awhile for the stomach to signal the brain.]. My point: I didn't need anything else the rest of the day. Nothing fills you up like good, heavy food, like the type sold at BBQ joints. Meat and veggies are a team. By my experience, you need BOTH!! Btw, the meat was smoked not fried. Lastly on this issue, "health food" SUCKS!!! [except bran.]. Soybean and alfalfa sprouts just don't strike me as appetizing.

Promiscuity: Not a good idea, regardless of whether you're heterosexual or homosexual. Whatever your preferance is, you need to find someone you "click" with, and once you've both established that you've got a serious relationship, then and only then should you go to the next level. And no two-timing. But if you insist on "swinging", then put on that raincoat (better yet make that two) so you will minimise the possibility of spreading STD's or having other problems develop.

Finally, politicians need to be told to leave the Second Amendment alone. Gun control laws only inconvenience (and in some cases, wrongfully punish) good citizens who are nowhere near a threat to their community or others. As I've mentioned in my post in the Kids Debating Room, those who committed that horrible act are the ones who are guilty. It isn't the sellers or manufacturers of guns who are at fault. Nor is it Joe Citizen. When Guns Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have Guns.

Before I go, I'd like to say I'm strongly tempted to give the Libertarian Party a good look. They may have some candidates who actually have a good chance of getting into office, and are worth a shit.

Mike.
