What else is there to say? (As a side note, the Normans apparently did give the Saxons plenty cause for swearing; from my recollection of the history of your Isles, the Saxons and, later, the Scots and Irish did their utmost to return the favor. It would seem a process that continues to the present day; it will take some time for us in the States to catch up, but enough seem bent on doing their part for the cause ... if quantity, as opposed to quality, is measured, we may have already surpassed our sea-bound brethren.

As to my own native region, New England, a fragment - some small remnant of the Puritan and Victorian - remains in our (in)famous invective, "Hey youse! Don' youse fuckin' swear!" Or words to that effect.

Thank you for a most informative and entertaining essay.
