: : DDN: Whatever. The bottom line is, y’all are going to heaven and everybody else is going to HELL, correct? You wouldn’t call that arrogant? I think this is the very HEIGHT of arrogance. And Darya is still incorrectly calling herself a christian by saying she believes in being tolerant and respectful of other religions. What’s there to be tolerant and respectful OF if following these other belief systems will land you in hell forever?!

Shaun :.....Unlike you, DDN, I am tolerant and respectable of other people and religions because we are all people.

DDN: You and Darya keep saying this over and over and I keep disproving it by pointing out over and over again that christianity does not tolerate ANYTHING accept itself. When are you going to address this point? Ever? I’ll make the point again for the 4th or 5th time:

A fundamental tenet of Christianity is that ALL followers of ALL other religions are going to burn in hell for all eternity when they die because they are not Christians (i.e.have not accepted Christ as the one true path to salvation, become born again, etc.). This is what you yourself Shaun have exlpained to me in previous posts. Also, just by claiming to be Christian, by definition, you must hold this belief.

Are you retracting this position by ignoring your previous statements and harping on and on about how tolerant and accepting you are? According to you and your Christian beliefs, is every non-christian going to eternal hell when they die or not? Pretty simple question Shaun. You’ve already said that they ARE going to hell. I’m giving you a chance to change your mind here. What’s it gonna be? Yes or No. Come on. Where’s your balls? Why don’t you just answer the question?

Shaun (cont):……The Bible tells us to love our neighbors. It doesn't matter what religion or race or nationality someone is. Christians are to love everybody just as Christ does and that's just what we do. You are the one who is intolerant ……

DDN: Come again? How am I being intolerant. The main point I’m trying to establish in this thread is that your belief that all people, beside christians, are going to hell when they die is a highly a intolerant position and anyone that maintains this position cannot truthfully claim to be an accepting, tolerant person.
It’s a pretty reasonable point, isn’t it? How am I being intolerant by making this point?

It seems to me that the only thing I’m truly being intolerant of is your refusal to address this blatent contradiction you have presented: On one hand you believe everyone who does not share your particular religious beliefs about christ is going to burn in hell forever, but, on the other hand, you say you are a tolerant person who is respectful of other religions. Can’t you see why I would be confused by this??!
Come on, Shaun. Clear this up for us and stop blaming me for a mess YOU created.

Shaun (cont):…. Christians are to love everybody just as Christ does and that's just what we do. You are the one who is intolerant of everybody who believes in God, including Nikhil (judging from your last post to him.) So it's not just Christians. You seem to dislike anybody who has a strong religious faith.
You seemed to be slightly intolerant of Nikhil's Hindu faith and you showed a total lack of tolerance for Christians. It's all really just a game to you. Who do you want to make fun of next? Hey! Are there any Muslims in this room? If so speak up, DDN would just love to trash your beliefs too!

DDN: [“I cont ‘old ‘er much longer captain. She’s gonna blow.” – Scotty from Star Trek]

Go ahead, HAVE a nervous breakdown. You NEED one. You WISH I was just picking on religion in general. I invite everyone to go read the post Shaun is referring to:

http://www.mcspotlight.org/debate/anything/messages/4120.html

and see for themselves that the only thing I’m bashing in that post is CHRISTIANITY – and doing a damn fine job of it if I don’t say so myself. My opinions on atheism in this thread clearly point out that I am NOT one. I “believe in God” as much as the next guy AND to the extent to which this expression can be meaningfully defined. I didn’t say squat about hinduism except to point out that christianity does not “tolerate and accept” hinduism and that Ghandi technically put his foot in his mouth by saying christianity was valid when christianity declares hinduism to be INVALID.

Shaun, as a christian, is the only one of the two of us that has expressed any intolerance for non-christian religious beliefs. Exmaples: “There is no way to heaven accept through Jesus [christianity]”, “Everyone that’s not going to heaven is going to hell”, etc.

I’ve questioned Darya’s conviction to the Christian faith, now I think its time to openly question Shaun’s.
Shaun: How deep is your faith in Christainity if, when confronted with biblical contradictions like the one’s you have helped me present, instead of standing up to them you “turn tail” and try to align yourself with the hellbound, non-christian religions of the world?

DDN:What are christian missionaries doing all over the world? Being tolerant and respectful of other peoples religions? Not hardly. Their trying to displace their religions completely with Christianity, aren’t they?

Shaun (cont):.....Are Christians the only ones who have missionaries all over the world?

DDN: That’s not the point, shaun, and you know it. The point is that sending missionaries all over the world to displace the religions of other cultures can hardly be classified as “respectful and tolerant of other religions” as you claim christianity to be. Your claim of “tolerance and respect” is errant – THAT’S the point. Do you agree that your claim is errant or not? No? Why not?

Shaun (cont):……Nope. Jehovahs Wittnesses' go door to door, Mormons have thier TV Commercials airing night and day, those Hair Krishnas or whatever they are are recruiting people in airports, and Muslims also have a strong missionary zeal.

DDN:

1) Jehova’s witnesses ARE Christians. Just ask them. They SAY that they are. That was enough proof for you to believe that Darya was a Christian – it ought to be enough for Jehova’s witnesses whose entire lifestyles are centered around selected verses from the bible.

2) Mormons are followers of Jesus Christ also and hence are technically christians. I’m sure they call themselves christians ALSO, don’t they?

3) The Hairy Fishnuts aren’t, to my knowledge, aren’t dispensing anything other than flowers. And, although they probably engage in some sort of recruiting activities, I’m not aware of their involvement in any mass geneocide operations or damning everyone to hell eternal that doesn’t worship Krishna.

4) Muslims? I have to admit ignorance on this one. But if they are as aggressive and intolerant as christians then sure, let’s cut them off at the knees ALSO.

Shaun (cont): …..Yet in your eyes Christians are the only ones who are wrong for sharing thier faith aren't they?

DDN:

1) Are you aware that you’ve just stated that christians are wrong for sharing their faith?

2) I agree that they are wrong for sharing their faith to the degree that such “sharing” violates the rights of others and carries with it the threat of burning in hell forever if the “sharing” is rejected. Christianity stands head and shoulders above all other world religions combined in this regard.

Shaun (cont):…..Even an athiest's main goal is to get everybody to stop believing in god.
Yes, DDN, people from your own "religion" (or lack thereof) are trying to get the 95% of the world who believe in God to join your side. In high school on of my favorite teachers was an athiest. Even though more than half the kids in my sciece class believed in God, he continuously tried telling us there was no God and he called Christianity a "primitive tribal custom" He did all this, yet if a Christian teacher mentions the word "Jesus" they are fired and the school gets sued.

DDN: They should BOTH get fired. The atheist for preaching HIS religious views to someone else’s kids and the Christian for doing the same. The state already has way too much control over the minds of our children, I certainly don’t want them to become responsible for their SPIRITUAL views as well. Fire both teachers, shut down their classrooms, and send the kids home an hour early.
