Personally, i do have a problem against eating red meat, i thought i'd just say that to get it out of the way. But i feel that the reason why most people would accept a homeless animal rather than a homeless human is purely financial and social.

I don't know about where you live, but over here it is cheap as to keep a pet. You pay a small amount of money to feed them once a day and that's it. Feeding a person alone can run the bill up a bit. It's a shame, i know, but it all boils down to the cost of living versus income.

The social reason being that there is a certain more passed down through generations as to what homeless people are like. They are stereotyped as being into crime, being very dirty, possibly carrying infectious disease (i do not agree with any of this by the way)... mother's teach their children to stay away from strangers, particularily those who don't look "safe" (ie professional appearance)... this is carried on through generations, while children are taught that kittens are cute and they are encouraged to cuddle them.

Given the oppertunity i'm not sure if i could afford either (after my holiday to CUBA!!!). But i definatly agree that the acceptance is way off.
