Socialism (pace Red Deathy) is merely a means of theft, done within the auspices and via the tolerance of the state. It is a historical inevitability, an advance on capitalism, in the same way that parasites are an "inevitability" and an "advance" on self sufficient organisms. When herbivores evolved, as a means of processing vegetable matter most efficiently into large organisms of meat, it was only a matter of time before new entities evolved that learned to exploit all that potential energy. Thus, a tiger does not tear into a gazelle in the name of the ecocycle, despite what the "Green" faction make desire us to believe - it does so because it is a meat-eater, has decided to eat, and simply is faster and stronger than the unfortunate herbivore/lunch with feet.

Like the natural world, the academian jungle of ideologies has also evolved various means by which the herbivores can be guiltlessly exploited. In the West, where us "plant-eaters" have learned to herd together, many have been forced to become omnivores (i.e., not being able to survive solely on enforced handouts, they actually hold jobs that force some productive work from their hides). However, the philosophy of "carniverism" is still a fondly held dream, despite the failure of a carnivore-based system in the former Soviet Union (although the gangster anarchism being called "capitalism" by the Left isn't much better).

Always here to help.
