I don't know if MCI does this

I don't know if MCI does this (but I will bet that they probably do)or not, but several long distance phone companies set up booths at fairs, college campuses, etc. with "contests" When you enter the contest (or sign up for a free giveaway, etc.) you are actually authorizing that long distance carrier for all of your long distance calls at very hefty rates. I completely agree that if phone companies are resorting to seedy business practices to make money then we should go back to having just one service provider.
As for AT&T, my university (University of Pittsburgh) has it as its carrier in all of the dorms, and I have never had a problem with them and my bills are usually pretty cheap.
