So we're comparable to plants?

:I am a vegan, I disagree with eating animal products, but I eat plants. There is a significant difference between plants and animals that I am sure we all realize, and that is consciousness and self-awareness. Although not all animals display self-awareness, they all display consciousness and intelligence, pigs are actually more intelligent than dogs but most people wouldn't dream of eating a dog.

If we begin to say that feelings are simply chemical reactions, then what does that say about us as humans? There is more to life than that, and that includes the so-called 'lesser' animals, but it does not include plants.
