Read your contract.

I'm sure you have rights. Read your contract. I don't know the laws of your state, but most state home sale contracts include representations from the owners that key element of the home, e.g. furnace, are working properly. Of course, you the buyer can waive these protections, but I doubt you would (or did). Again, you must read your contract carefully, especially the section regarding the seller's duties. I can tell you right now that the structure must be sound unless the house is sold "as is." It may be worth your while to contact an attorney. If you can't afford one, try the local law school; they usually have clinics which are available to the public (this gives you a needed service while providing great training for the students, under guidance from faculty).

I feel for you, having recently purchased a house myself. Good luck!
