I'm a longtime animal rights advocate. Here is my take on hunting, which I've copied from one of my earlier posts on animal rights:

...the one area I'm ambivalent about is hunting (for food; trophy hunters can all drop dead). Deer and other so-called game animals are at least given the opportunity to live freely, and as nature intended, before being killed by a man; nature is merciless, and animals kill each other for food. I would rather not have men hunt animals for
food, however -- I'd rather see people always treat animals with kindness and charity. However, while I may actively protest many things, I don't protest hunting for food.
