: Thanksgiving? What's that?

Thanksgiving is a celebration of the Pilgrim's arrival in New England in the 1600's, and their reliance upon the Pequod and other native american tribes to survive the harsh winters, and their subsequent genocidal campaign against these same tribes (except nobody is supposed to mention that last bit of unpleasantness). As William Bradford wrote at the time, in his "History of Plymouth Plantation," describing one John Mason's fiery raid upon a Pequod village:

"Those that scaped the fire were slaine with the sword; some hewed to peeces, others rune throw with their rapiers...they thus destroyed about 400 at this time. It was a fearful sight to see them thus frying in the fyer...but the victory seemed a sweete sacrifice, and they gave their prayers thereof to God..."

THANKSGIVING!
