: I really like beef burgers but I know that the slash and burn operations etc. that produce them are death to the environment and real insane capitalism, so can anyone recommend to me a way that I could indulge my taste without wrecking everything?

: Short of growing cows in my back yard, which isnt really big enough for that.

Here in the states, a bunch of companies have deliberately created soy-based beef substitutes that supposedly taste just like beef. I don't eat them because I don't much care for the taste of beef, but folks I know who do have tried them and liked them. That would be the "strong programme" solution. If you've really got a taste for meat, and aren't interested in substitutes, you might consider looking into some of the local farms. Alternatively, you could check out a place called Quintesscence (327 Antrim Rd, Belfast BT15 2HF Tel: 01232 742659) who are up near you, and who deliver anywhere within 3 miles. I'm not sure if they sell meats (sorry, I just wouldn't know) but you can give it a try. If not, they probably at least have the meat substitutes that you can sample. Good luck.
