: I'm lost here. Hopi culture what?..I'm pulling a Vinnie Bobarino on this one. Please fill me in. Is this some culture where people get off torturing animals?

The Hopi Indians are one of the most ancient of tribes to have settled the American West. Like many Native Americans, they have profound spiritual beliefs tied to nature. Unfortunately (in my opinion), they include animal sacrifice - the smothering of eagles - in their religious lives. They are not a culture which centers around torturing animals (though one can argue than present-day industrialized countries torture animals as part of everyday existence, e.g., meat production), but they do engage in the abusive practice as described above. Scroll down, you'll find a lot more info, and arguments, on this.
