: I never proposed banning anything just, as I'm doing now, trying to persuade people to be considerate and feel less threatened so that they have no need to force their 'pride' on others, what is a militant pride march that goes where it isnt appreciated anyway other than a mark of insecurity or supremism?

Yes, again, I can see your point. So, the reason that these marches take place is, partially, to demonstrate to the members of the oppressed groups that they have no need to fear, and also, in part, to demonstrate to the oppressors that oppression will not be tolerated (strength in numbers). Unfortunately, as many of us have pointed out, homosexuals are still an oppressed minority. The homosexual community has very good reason to feel insecure, since their lives and well beings, as well as their careers, personal relationships, friendships, and even relations to their families are potentially jeopardized, just because of who they are. If homosexuals were not persecuted, then perhaps pride marches would not happen. However, the marches will only stop when the homosexual community feels that they no longer serve a purpose. Straight folks telling gays not to march is simply another stage of repression that justifies the marches in the first place. When two guys can kiss in your local pub without fear of getting beaten, there probably won't be any more pride marches because they won't be necessary. Until then, don't expect them to go away.

: See as regards the silly season I thought it was significant that in the town where that guy got trailed to death the KKK etc. turned up and the Black Pathers etc. turned up all armed to the teeth and squelling black and white power at each other and no one got killed, over here all you need is to have three or more people with divided mindsets and they'll try to kill each other with their bare hands, they've done it successfully too in the past.

Yeah, that level of instant violence is a historical artifact that I'm quite happy we don't share. Possibly it has to do with the duration of occupation, I'm not sure. Still, things look brighter up your way than they have at any time since 1968, IMHO.
