Most of the groups that organized the huge showdown in Seattle with the forces of globalized tyranny are planning a follow up in Washington
DC. The action takes place April 16-17 at the headquarters of the IMF and the World bank and surrounding area(including a Starbucks right across the street that should probably board up for the week). Times and specific tactics have yet to be decided, but one things for sure: we need everyone we can get to SHUT DOWN THE IMF April 16th! The organizers are referring to this whole thing simply as "A16." I learned of it at the National Conference on Civil Disobediance, a huge convention with over 600 people in attendance.
Globalization(the export of misery and the corporate-sponsored race to the bottom on living conditions) represents one of the greatest threats to freedom in the 21st century, as corporations try to become private forms of government backed by wholly-owned "banana republic" third world states. It also has so angered so many people that there is a real chance we can TAKE THE OFFENSIVE and send these corporate robber barons reeling. Anyway, we will have to fight with everything we've got just to keep the status quo and not enter a world like Huzley's "Brave New World." If WE win,it will be a chance to, having once seized the initiative, to win rollbacks on issue after issue from sweatshops to geneticly engineered "food"(and thus corporate control over seeds and thus food) and ultimately to win control of the engines of society and economics away from the wealthy who exploit us all like so many McDonald's beef cattle(or is it sheep?). I repeat-either we bury corporate monopoly capitalism NOW or it will crush our lives, crush our spirits, and leave behind an almost unrecognizable world. A16 is a critical battle in this desperate war for survival, so please be there and fight to save your OWN future!
