I can still appreciate the humour man.

: DDN: Man's actions under the COMMAND of God:

: Lev.24
: [23] So Moses spoke to the people of Israel; and they brought him who had cursed out of the camp, and stoned him with stones. Thus the people of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.

: God didn't want to get his hands dirty? So what? Left to their own devices, the humans involved in this episode probably would have opted for a spanking.

Yeah, well that old book is a bit dated and suspect at parts if you ask me, guess that makes me heretic, oh well.

: DDN: Point taken, but PANCAKES??!! Come on.

Hmmm...Pancakes, with butter and lemon juice, hmmmm...

:And walking through the desert?!

Hey, man what do you expect the creator of all and sundry to do in his spare time?

:Why does God need to walk in order to get to Sodom? And why does he need to stop and eat first? I'm sorry, this sounds so rediculous?

No, I think your confusing needs to with simply chooses to. I mean if I absolutely didn't have to eat I think I'd do it anyway because it's kind of enjoyable, I eat meat and I dont have to, that and it's kind of the done thing to accept hospitality.

:How are we supposed to believe that Jehova is the supreme all-powerful creator of the universe with laughable accounts like this peppering the bible? That's my main point here.

Yeah, laughable accounts ;-), well I do think that you've got these facts to consider:

A)The context in which the old and new testament was written, the old testament was written by a proud race that couldnt, I think, help mixing in a bit of self-glorification and the new testament has a healthy dose of evangelical zeal mixed in for good measure by it's authors.

B) What about the suppressed gospels etc. that cast a different light upon the resurrection etc.

: DDN: No, its not just sensationalized psuedo-pop-science. There's abundant scholarly research and evidence to support alien intervention theories of the bible. 'Chariots of the Gods' is just the commercialized epidermic speculative layer of such research. You'd probably really enjoy reading the works of Zecharia Sitchin, one of the leading proponents of alien theories. He's a renowned and seasoned researcher and has authored many books documenting his findings. His theories are facinating if nothing else. He believes that an alien race needed gold dust to restore their planet's damaged atmosphere and that humans are primarily the descendents of their gold mining slaves.

You know that's just credible, well in the modern context where there is more 'faith' in scientific/materialist expalantions than religious ones, so I'd have to have my doubts about it.

Darwinism kind of fucks up that theory. Besides, even if that where the case, there would have to be some kind of life after death and creator of the aliens.

: These were the kinds of impressions I had myself when studying the bible and that was before I'd ever even heard of Sitchin. Alien theories of this sort certainly would explain the confused, hostile, and manipulative nature of "Jehova" and maybe even "God's" obsession with gold. Now we have bloodless cattle mutilations linked with UFO sitings. Could this phenomena be a vestige of Jehova's equally bizarre obsession with animal blood, flesh, sacrifice, etc.? I guess I can't help but entertain such ideas; I just find it so profoundly hilarious that we might be some apathetic alien's abandon little pets and that the authoring of one of our primary operating manuals (the Holy Bible) was our lame attempt to make some sense out of our enslavement.

That's just about possible too, you watch Stargate SG-1? I think also that it's also possible that that clever Bastard Satan is influencing people to develop such theories in a modern context and to appeal to human 'reason', did you ever hear of the meeting in hell where the three devils where competeing to be sent of earth? The first says I'll tell man God's evil, the second says I'll tell man Satan's powerful, the third says I'll tell man God and Satan dont exist. The third got sent.

: Other researches have noted that certain aspects of our anatomy suggest that humans are not even indigenous to Earth. I'm sure Sitchin must address this also. One theory says that modern humans are actually alien/ape hybrids, which make the gold mining theory even more interesting and would explain some key contraversial verses in genesis regarding our origins.

Yeah, I know those verses but arent you just trying to rationalise those in a modernistic fashion? The most immediate answer isnt always the correct one.

The guy who wrote that account, the whole 'we' business, was writting in the style of the times. There are other reasons for my sceptic views, what about the continuity of miracles? The Stigmata etc.?

I dont think it's not impossible that Satan or the Angels would be employing aspects of pop culture in their fight, I dont think it's impossible either that aliens my be employing religious fact to fool us all but I dont believe that religion is a fiction or concocted by clever exploiters.
