Fighting McD's in Red Hook, NY

Posted by: Lucy Hayden on July 01, 1996 at 01:23:32:

In Red Hook, NY, a rural community in Dutchess County, a proposed
strip mall is planned that will include a drive-thru McDonald's.
Residents and village businesses are firmly opposed to this entire
development, but the proposed presence of McDonald's is a key
rallying point for protest.

A community group, Red Hook Views, which was formed to protect and
enhance the small village in a rural setting, is holding a community
forum on July 17, 1996 to discuss the potential consequences of
this development and strategies for fighting it. Of course, we need
all the help and information we can get to win this battle, because
although the Master Plan of the town specifically states that such
development should be avoided at all costs, the area is zoned for
commercial development and the developers are within their rights.

We'll keep you posted.
