Afirmative Action

Being a Cuban American, I'm expected, by many, to debate for afirmative action. However, I'll be applying for college soon, and I have worked extremely hard these past four years to keep my grades up so that I may be accepted into many prestigious schools. It makes me sick to think that even if my grades were below average, I might be accepted to a school simply because of my heritage. If someone did not get admitted to a school because their grades were too low, that would be fair. But to let someone in who does not belong there is unfair to the many that applied and qualified but are white males. Afirmative action is not the solution to our problems. The past is the past, giving someone an education they don't deserve will not make up for the past. Afirmative action is a step back in time that our society does not need. Give the chances to the people who deserve them, those who worked hard to get where they are.
