World Day - report from Oxford

Posted by: Pixie ( Oxford Earth First!, UK ) on October 18, 1996 at 01:18:43:

On Oct 16th, as part of the International day of action against McShit,
around 25 activists from Oxford Student Green Action and Oxford Earth
First! occupied McD's on Cornmarket (the main street in the city). Staff
were so overworked that they failed to notice us handing round pamphlets
to customers, until we started drumming and shouting "Stop McDonald's,
Stop McLies". We were removed almost peacefully, and continued to shout,
drum and protest outside, with banners. In just over an hour we managed
to hand out over 1500 leaflets exposing McDonald's for what they really
are. Many people joined us outside so that at one point there were over
40 of us, including the Oxford Animal Protection Society. The police
didn't mind and neither, it seemed, did some of the workers: one said
"Right on mate, I don't give a fuck about McD's".
