Koalas

Posted by: Jane Salmon ( Nature Conservation Council of NSW, Australia ) on October 09, 1998 at 19:08:55:

Koalas in south east NSW are affected by government refusal to stand up to logging companies.

Land which should be reserved for eco tourism and to preserve biodiversity is being plundered.

It is an international outrage that the genetic health of an Aussie
tourist icon could be compromised for a few more cardboard boxes.

In sheer economic terms, the forests are worth more uncut than as wood.

Please email the political leader of this state who is ultimately re responsible for establishing national parks or reserves which would protect these critters and other animals which rely on old growth forest (500 years to grow, 5 minutes to cut) with hollows. Those animals include yellow bellied gliders, powerful owls and tiger quolls.

The dude's name is Bob Carr.

Bob Carr c/- forests@nccnsw.org.au or by writing to him in Sydney.

His address is:

Premier of NSW
The Hon Bob Carr
Parliament House
Macquarie Street
Sydney NSW 2000
Australia

Anyway, write to us c/- forests@nccnsw.org.au if you are interested in more information and give us a plug on radio, tv or in print in your country. It's time to bring the shame home to Aussie pollies.

Thanks
