FIRST EVER SUCCESSFUL ANTI MCD CAMPAIGN IN CORK

Posted by: GRACE ( IRELAND ) on October 19, 1998 at 11:55:42:

The first ever campaign against McDonalds in Cork, Ireland took place yesterday, Saturday, 17th October. It was a huge success. All of our 2,000 leaflets were handed out, and a number of people decided not to enter the McDonald's restaurants once they had read our leaflets. We got press coverage before the campaign in the local paper, the Avondhu. A representative of a national newspaper, also approached us asking us to inform them of the date of the next campaign as they would like to include coverage. We also got a few new recruits for our campaign, and was asked to give a talk at a local meeting.

As a result of our successes, we are going to fundraise so that we can hold a campaign once every month. We are also hoping, eventually, to set up an anti-McDonald's campaign group permanently in Cork. The litter wardens were very co-operative and so were the gardai, who allowed us to continue our demonstrations, and even commended us on what we were doing!!! A huge thank you goes to Hilde, who helped me in getting the campaign up and running. If anyone from Cork reads this message and is interested in getting involved with the campaign, could they please send me an e-mail.
