Nike Town

Nike - Town opens February 22nd, 1997 at Union Square in San Francisco. This is going to be a major event for the company. They have bought expensive ads on local busses. This is a wonderful opportunity for activists in the Bay Area to get out and demonstrate against the kind of reprehensible consumerism that this company epitomizes.

Some suggested slogans for signs:
"Just do it --Boycott products made by slave labor."

"Nike cross-trainers;
Total Indonesian material & labor costs; $5.67.
your purchase price is?"

"Nike prices reflect all advertising costs"

etc.

This is, among many other resources, the kind of hands-on community activism advocated in the Overcoming Consumerism Web site.
