A fourth McDonalds was recently rejected for Palmerston North, New Zealand (pop 75,000) on the grounds of traffic congestion. Now a McDonalds is planned for Bulls, a tiny town on the main North Island highway. They would like to catch skiing and holiday traffic. It seems to me that this could destroy the other food outlets in Bulls and generally crap-ify the whole place. If anyone has any information on how toake a planning submission along these lines, I would like to hear from you.

Another point - the sad truth is that some Bulls residents are so eager for fast food that they drive 45km into Palmerston North. Many people like McDonalds and many more don't care. This is not mentioned by the protest movement: perhaps they think those people will change their minds when they know the facts?
