SUCCESSFUL ADELAIDE PROTESTS JUNE 28

Posted by: Jane Salmon ( Individual Supporter, Australia ) on July 01, 1997 at 10:29:20:

Congratulations to the 40 or so McLibel Supporters who met in Rundle Mall, Adelaide to leaflet outside McDonalds. Major commercial television news and Sunday newspaper coverage was achieved. Well done!

What leaflet did you use?

By the way, I'd welcome details of local organisations who tie in to the McLibel network -- or please pass on my addresses to them.

Which groups are actively involved in Canberra? Have had a query.

Peter Singer's draft of a letter to Charlie Bell, Australian head of McDonalds is loaded with constructive suggestions for McDonalds taking the initiative against cruelty measures. Full text is available through him. Contact me if you would like to know more about obtaining details.

Notes:

Reforms to the NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act regarding allocated space (for movement) of stock animals went through last week, though suggestions that we take it further haven't gotten very far. Main thing is that we held the line and lost little to conservatives and farming lobby ("cockies" and "Nats" in Oz vernacular).

David Horton's new book on Altruism is also well worth a read -- so tell everyone or order a copy by writing (with $11 for book & return postage) to: VeganWise Books, 9/75 Elizabeth Bay Rd Elizabeth Bay NSW 2011 Australia.

Thanks for reading and keep the faith.
