: : This just in: at the WTO Summit in Seattle, protesters chained themselves together and lay down in the road to disrupt the meetings. Illegal? Yes. Violent? No. So how did the police respond? They bombarded them with red pepper tear gas. Now maybe things will turn even more violent. Lesson: expect to be assaulted when you stand between big business and their profits.
: Yes, the people there where John Does, there was an anarchist contingent with black flags but the people interviewed where generally normal semi-political folk who said that they where against the privatisation of the world and the idea that absolutely everything was for sale, honourable, but it would appear that honour warrants pepper spray attacks, battoning, tear gas, paint gun blasts in modern society.
: Did anyone see Clinton trying to score points? Has anyone told him to fuck off yet?
I'm no fan of Clinton, Lark, except when contrasted with the Republican loonies in Congress. Still, perhaps we ought to give the guy a break when he actually says something sensible, as in including the protesters' voices in WTO talks. After all, Clinton could have taken a hardline, Nixonian stance, and then what would we say -- fuck off?
