: : Prove it!

: WTO Demos. J18 Carnival Against Capitalism was funded largely in london and organised by an aristo and some of his friends, etc. etc. Look at the world.

Actually, as someone who was vaguely involved in J18, I can say that that's not correct. J18 was formed by London Greenpeace, People's Global Action, Reclaim the Streets and other green/anarchist groups in the UK; Mark isn't an 'aristo' by any means; and much of the funding for J18 was done by using the proceeds of a couple of police harrassment lawsuits.

The story you're referring to comes originally from that well-known bastion of left-wing morals; The London Evening Standard.

(A paper frequently given to writing stern articles about the perils of allowing undesirables to continue living and breathing.)

In fact, the funding on a day-to-day basis at meetings (for non-London J18'ers) was done by having a whipround at the meetings to help fund bus fares home; it was very much a beg-borrow-scrounge affair.

Still, it certainly had an impressive result; I don't regret the time I put into J18.

Farinata.
