For those of you who don't remember the Union Carbide story that 'Harpo' was referring to, that was December 1984 when Union Carbide's chemical plant in Bhopal, India released toxic fumes that killed two thousand people and blinded thousands more.

Its CEO immediately held a press conference in which he'd said that he'd do all in his power to find out what happened and compensate the victims. A week later he held another press conference in which he said that that he'd 'overreacted.' In the first case he reacted as a human being, in the second as a CEO.
