: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$Again, God, once again, what role does the culture itself play?

SDF: YOU'RE the one defending the "free market" i.e. corporate hegemony as the solution to all problems. Shut up with the red herrings and diversions and GET DEFENDING!

: : SDF: And it's too bad there's no prospects for advancement, either in wages or in positions, for any of those women, in Vietnam or Malaysia or Indonesia or wherever there's cheap labor to exploit.
: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$Again, what role do those governments play in keeping their citizens oppressed? That's the important question, isn't it? Your attributing far more political power to Nike then any reasonable person would.

SDF: But Nike reaps enormous PROFITS from this deal! Are you saying you object to Nike's profits?

: : The folks in the Pico-Rivera pay ENORMOUS rents and work in the same damn sweatshops!
: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Where's Pico-Rivera?

SDF: Mea culpa, that's Pico-Union, home to the United States' biggest Salvadoran refugee population, also Florida, see Barbara Ehrenreich's article in the February 1999 Harper's.

BTW, how in hell is Rand McNally going to know what Vietnamese workers pay in RENT? Ask the local government? Yeah right.
