Julia Butterfly finally descended from the redwood tree she'd been sitting atop of for two years to prevent clearcutting of ancient redwood forests by Pacific Lumber, the lumber company acquired by corporate raider and environmental nightmare Charles Hurwitz, CEO of Maxxim Industries. In return for ending her protest, Butterfly and her supporters agreed to pay Pacific $50,000 (which the company will donate to Humboldt University to further forestry study. In exchange, Pacific will spare Butterfly's tree, as well as 2.9 surrounding acres.

Pacific tried to get Butterfly to sign a statement condeming environmental activism. She told them to get lost.
