: I've just seen the time machine, I reckon they show it on BBC every new year, and I reckon I can detect socialist overtones in some of it, is this just a coincidence or was HG really a bit of a 'red'?

HG Wells was a socialist. So were Einstein, Brecht, Sartre, JBS Haldane, Maynard-Smith, Chomsky, Gould, and a whole host of otehr intellectuals.

: I know Einstein was, so maybe all the really smart people are 'reds'.

My late father used to say something very similar. (he was a redistributive liberal capitalist). he said that anybody who took the time to think seriously about economics and ethics became either a liberal or a socialist.
