I think you kind of missed my point. regardless of what would be the most rational thing to do from an American socialist viewpoint, I believe that it would have better to vote for Carter in 1980 for a single reason. If Carter had won in 1980, much of Central America would probably be socialist democracy today. Ironically, it might have been better for international socialism to subvert our preferences in 1980 and vote reluctantly for a Democrat- albeit, the best Democrat (the best president, actually) since FDR.
