Maybe you wouldn't.

Instead of scaring people, maybe you can win them over to your side with friendly, intelligent persuasion instead. You're psychologically astute enough to know that scaring people can result in: a) their fearing, and hating you; b) their building up defenses against you (both mentally and physically; c) their embracing a power which will defend them against their object of their fear -- in this case, the capitalist state's military and police. This leaves you with fewer allies and more enemies.

The other point to consider is that people need time to come around to your way of seeing things; if I may give a personal account: early on in my fiery animal rights days, my outlook was "You're either with us, or you're against us," and if you ate meat, you were the enemy. That attitude only alienated people. I also realized that before I became an animal rights activist, I too ate meat. Now, were you born a marxist, Barry, or did you come to this stage thru your own intellectual evolution, perhaps guided by other marxists?
