The degree of empowerment, direct action and producer/consumer self management is what really differentiates dictatorship and democracy.

Well that's where the problems begin dictators usually appoint themselves, whether they are saying you can vote for whatever party you want as long as it is 'whatever' or you can have whatever colour you want provided it's black (Ford on the 'Tin Lizzy'). I've not heard of Solon no but I did think that the dictatorship of Sankara was a nice regime, as regimes go that is.
