: : piper: Agreed. I am glad you at least are up front about what is required. Nikhil OTOH was trying to sell me some nonsense about the coming of marxism being a peaceful democratic process, which is whaT I TOOK EXCEPTION TO.

: Hold on why is that impossible? Michael Harrington, the major author for the DSA, wrote a very good book about Marx and his opinions about Chartism, the paris commune and the democratic process in which he suggested Marx was a democrat.

Piper: Marx thought of the revolution as being brought to the people rather than being achieved by the people. That doesn't sound very democratic to me.

I am aware authors have suggested that it could be implemented democratically (Berty Russell is anor who said this), but I think you need to be realistic Lark, in todays climate do you really see a peaceful flower power revolution coming about?

(IMHO It can't for one very basic reason- people generally don't think, they are too overcome by corporate society to do that... and on the rare occasions they do think, they certainly don't think in terms of revolution that are going to turn their lives and their loved ones lives upside down.)
