Are they? Most food, indeed most goods, in the west is produced in the west using western resources (ie not african crops or soil). A lot (and it is a lot) of food is produced abroad - is this the dependancy you mean?

Are they slaves then? Or are they simply earning less per hour? This isnt a pleasant truth - but its the best way to redistribute wealth to other countries (to avoid, as much as possible, the transference of taced wealth to 3rd world statist)
